Hello, I’m Christine.
I am an Arab-American photojournalist working full time at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
My work focuses on issues of inequality. Specifically, I am interested in stories related to the LGTQIA+ community, abortion, housing, racial inequality and rural communities.
I grew up in a small, rural town an hour outside St. Louis. I then attended college at Webster University, where I held a variety of positions on our student newspaper, including managing and photo editor.
Before working at the Post-Dispatch, I held internships at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Indianapolis Star. Through both internships, I pitched and photographed a variety of daily and long-term stories. Most notably, I worked on a long term multimedia project at IndyStar about a woman with Lakota and Dakota Sioux roots connecting with her culture.
I then spent a year full time as a photojournalist on staff at The Commercial Appeal in Memphis, Tenn. Through my time there, I worked with my team to cover several national stories, including a high profile kidnapping case and a mass shooting. As one of two photographers, I often planned long-term coverage on stories with reporters. Additionally, I pitched and photographed stories, including a story about a Black rodeo bringing representation to the Mid-South.
In St. Louis, I’ve been privileged to work on stories I care about in the city I’m from. I have spent the last year following stories related to healthcare for transgender individuals, abortion and efforts to legislate drag shows.
My work has been recognized numerous times by the Society of Professional Journalists and the Missouri College Media Association. I was named Missouri College Media Association's 2018-19 Photojournalist of the Year. My student newspaper was also named an Associated College Press Pacemaker Award finalist in 2018 while I was on staff.
I look forward to working with you.
